Patricia Johnson, Poet and Professor
The Chilhowie Art Place at 131 E. Main Street will host Patricia Johnson, poet and professor, at a reception and art luncheon representing Black History Month for the month of February. The reception will be on Sunday, February 14 (2:00 - 4:00 pm ), and the Art Luncheon will be on Thursday, February 18 (12:00 Noon - 1:00 pm). Ms. Johnson will be reading from collections of her works at both events. Reservations are requested for the Art Luncheon which is $6.00.
Johnson is the author of the award winning collection of poetry, Stain My Days Blue, published by Ausdoh Press of Philadelphia, PA. She has also penned two chapbooks of poetry, Spirit Rising and Waiting for Boaz. Johnson has presented her work at the Festival of Faith and Writing at Calvin College, Virginia Festival of the Book, Ferrum College Women's Leadership Conference, and numerous schools, universities and conferences across the U.S. and abroad.
Johnson is a graduate of Ferrum College and Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a Cave Canem fellow, member of the Carolina African American Writers Collective and founder of SPARKS (Society of Poets and Artists Rejuvenating Kindred Spirits). Formerly, Johnson was a touring artist for the Virginia Commission of the Arts.
A native of Elk Creek, VA, and daughter of George and the late Alice Johnson, Ms. Johnson now works in public relations in the Roanoke area.
