Christmas time’s a comin’ and the Town of Chilhowie is getting an early start on the holiday season. The 2nd Annual Christmas in July will be held on Saturday, July 31st at the Old High School in Chilhowie from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This event will feature craft items inside the Old High School and a selection of yard sale items outdoors at the school all featuring some type of Christmas item or display. It’s a great time to get an early start on your Christmas shopping. Craft vendors will have an assortment of items from candles, jewelry, handmade accessories, soaps and much more. The Lifetime Wellness Center Movers & Shakers will perform at 11:00 a.m. A Hershey Creations contest will also be held during the fest. Contestants are encouraged to make or bake an item with a least one Hershey ingredient in the recipe. Categories are broken down in to the following groups: cakes, cookies/bars, pies, breads/muffins, and candies. Recipe cards including names and contact information must be provided with each entry. The “yummiest in show” will win a gift basket full of Hershey products. Items may be entered between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Judging will take place at 12 noon. A silent auction will also be held featuring super gift baskets with many items donated by businesses and retailers throughout Smyth County. Basket themes will include a Virginia Tech basket, a fishing/hunting basket, a golf basket, grilling basket, picnic basket, beach basket, and several entertainment baskets. Don’t miss a special visit with Santa as he travels through Chilhowie on his way to the beach. Admission to the event is one canned food item to benefit the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry in Chilhowie.
