Water & Sewer   --- Issues & Updates

1. Water & Sewer Distribution Upgrade Plan

Sewer:

First In-Town sewer project is complete.

Pre - construction conference was held with Boring Contractors, Inc, Abingdon , Virginia on April 2, 2008 . Boring has been issued a Notice To Proceed effective May 1, 2008 . Contract has a completion time of 315 days.

Water:       

Chilhowie Street – Line 400: As of  March 6, 2008 :                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              110’ of 6” water line, 36’of 6” ductile iron, 70’of  ¾” service line, 1 meter box, and 1 fire hydrant have been installed. 37 tons of gravel has been used. 4 meters have been hooked up. March 4^th and 5^th rain kept us from working on the project, but we did haul gravel for the project. On March 7^th t he construction crew was pulled from Chilhowie St. to Old Stage Rd. VDOT is going to pave Old Stage Rd, so they were moved to complete the project before it was paved.

Old Stage Road – Line 1100:  As of March 7, 2008 thru March 27, 2008 :

2160’ of 6” water line, 231’ of 6” ductile iron,129’of ¾” service line, 10’ of 4” water line, 5’ of 1” water line, 1 fire hydrant, 11 meter boxes,  4 – 6” gate valves, and 1 – 4” gate valve have been installed. 580 tons of gravel has been used. We will be continuing work on Old Stage Rd. until it is complete and will then move back to Chilhowie Street .

2. Leak Detection & Repairs

Leaks being detected and repaired as needed. Ultrasound flow meter has been purchased to help resolve low accountability problems on West End . Investigation and repairs being completed in Tiny Town Trailer Park on leaks, inadequate size lines, and replacement of lines.

c.   Purchase two (2) pick-ups from state contract to replace four (4) Public Works vehicle requiring repairs.

a.  Chilhowie Walking Trail

Lane Engineering has received the “50% plans” back from VDOT with comments. “90% plans” will be resubmitted by April 18, 2008 .

Smyth County Building Inspector has required a structural analysis prior to issuing a building permit for removing part of the walls. Lane architect has reviewed structure on 4/8/08 and will be issuing report to submit to Building Inspector.
