Water & Sewer   --- Issues & Updates

a.                 Water & Sewer Distribution Upgrade Plan

 

Sewer:

 

First In-Town sewer project is complete.

 

Bids for second In-Town sewer project opened on December 20, 2007 . Six (6) bids were received. The low bidder is Boring Contractors, Inc, Abingdon , Virginia at $1,126,995.00. DEQ reviewing bid documents and final budget prior to formally awarding contract.

 

Water:       

 

Old Stage Rd. Ext. – Line 8100: As of Jan. 27, 2008 :                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              420’of  ¾” service line, 110’of 1 ¼” encasement pipe, 10’ of 4” drain line, 7 meter boxes, and 2 road crossings have been completed. Some cleanup has been completed using 5 ton of topsoil, 8 lbs. of grass seed, and 3 bales of straw. The water line has been completed and all meters have been hooked up. Some cleanup and asphalting will need to be done to complete the project in this area. No work on the project was done on Dec 31, 2007 and Jan.1, 2008 due to holidays. On Jan.7 no work was done as the Construction Crew had to take down the Christmas Decorations from the streets. On Jan. 11th and 12th the Construction Crew had to repair 10” water main damaged by Makco, Inc. (Hardee’s Turn Lane)  On Jan. 22, the Construction Crew had to repair a leak to a water main underneath Highway 11 between the High School and Shopping Center. A total of 14 days the Construction Crew was not able to dig due to rain, snow, and cold temperatures.

 

Chilhowie Street – Line 400: Equipment has been moved to Chilhowie Street and installation should begin on Feb. 1, considering the weather cooperates.

a.       Maple Grove Nursing Home – Sold to Chilhowie Church of God for $30,000 (highest responsive bidder) – Recommend it be dropped from the agenda

 

b.       Chilhowie Walking Trail

 

VDOT Richmond has requested that the Bonham House be included in the Walking Trail rather than going to Main Street . Lane Engineering has submitted a revised plan to reach the Bonham House on solely on VDOT right-of-way.

Separate sealed bids for the Renovations to the Loman’s Store Building near the Chilhowie Park will be received by Mr. William Boswell , Town Manager, at the Town Hall, 325 East Lee Highway , Chilhowie , Virginia 24319 , until 2:00 p.m. on January 28, 2008 and then at said office publicly opened and read aloud. The project consists of conversion of the building to an open picnic pavilion. 

 

The Plans and Specifications for the Project and Bid Form may be examined and obtained at the Chilhowie, VA Town Hall.   

 

The OWNER reserves the right to waive irregularities and to reject any and all BIDS if it appears in the OWNER’S best interest to do so.
