Water & Sewer   --- Issues & Updates

  1. Water & Sewer Distribution Upgrade Plan

 

Sewer:

 

First In-Town sewer project is complete.

Pre - construction conference was held with Boring Contractors, Inc, Abingdon, Virginia on April 2, 2008. Boring has been issued a Notice To Proceed effective May 1, 2008. Contract has a completion time of 315 days.

 

Water:       

Old Stage Road – Line 1100:  As of March 28, 2008 thru April 24, 2008:

625’ of 6” water line, 1115 of ¾” service line, 20’ of 4” water line, 173’ of 1” service line, 100’ of 2” service line, 1 fire hydrant, 5 valve boxes, and 24 meter boxes have been installed. 197 tons of gravel and 5 tons of rock dust, 45 lbs. of grass seed, 5 tons of top soil, and 10 bales of straw have been used. Some clean up and patch paving is needed to complete Old Stage Road.

 

 

Orchard Ave – Line 6000:  On April 25, 2008, the construction crew moved to Orchard Ave. The road was saw cut to start the installation of the water line. 20’ of 6” water line was installed.  1 ton of rock dust and 10 tons of gravel has been used. Work is continuing on Orchard Ave.

 

  1. Leak Detection & Repairs

Leaks being detected and repaired as needed. Ultrasound flow meter has been purchased to help resolve low accountability problems on West End. Investigation and repairs being completed in Tiny Town Trailer Park on leaks, inadequate size lines, and replacement of lines.

Lane Engineering has received the “50% plans” back from VDOT with comments. “90% plans” were resubmitted May 1, 2008.

The anticipated schedule is as follows:

          Request to Award sent to VDOT            June 20, 2008

          Receive Approval VDOT to Award                   July 20, 2008

          Agreement with Contractor                             August 7, 2008      

Preconstruction Conference                   August 7, 2008

          Start Construction                                August 9, 2008

          Complete construction                          December 15, 2008

Smyth County Building Inspector has required a structural analysis prior to issuing a building permit for removing part of the walls. Lane architect has reviewed structure on 4/8/08 and issued drawings for submission to the Smyth County Building Inspector. The drawings do required additional support for the front wall openings and the areas on the side where part of the side wall will be removed.
